The Greeks—Aristotle, Plato and Socrates—make the cut almost every time even though they worked overtime to give philosophy a popular image caked in fossilized boredom. An indifferent reality grants nothing else. For theory, the undermining of common sense means that philosophy becomes separated from empirical enquiry, to the impoverishment of both. Nothing beats boredom quite like philosophy. Most of your life is dull, tasteless and boring. Heh, on the first day of class, I usually make the arguement that a necessary condition of philosophy is boredom of a certain kind. They go to bed early and wake up early.
